Whether for a book or publication, an exhibition, or a social-media feed, photographers usually work with series or sets of images. Selecting which images work well together is called ‘editing’ and the resulting set of photographs is known as an ‘edit’.
Some photographers seem to know how to edit a series based largely on intuition, selecting their favourite photographs and looking for the most visually convincing way of sequencing these, for instance by considering factors such as colours or repeating or contrastive elements.
Great books and exhibitions by great photographers have been made in this way.
