The Prix de Rome, organised by the Mondriaan Fund, is the leading award for visual artists in the Netherlands and the Caribbean, aiming to support talent and increase visibility.
Kevin Osepa, visual artist and filmmaker, focuses on Afro-Caribbean spirituality, identity, and colonial memory—often from a personal and queer perspective. With photography, video, and installations, he revives suppressed knowledge and rituals. Forhanna and BredaPhoto supported his project Klof, Village of Spirits.
The jury praises Osepa’s ability to reveal the impact of colonialism, creating mystical-realist narratives that offer alternatives to dominant Western views and weave unity across cultures and histories.
