We are honored to announce that this year’s annual The Willem Poelstra Lecture will be delivered by Jonas Bendiksen.
The lecture is part of a thematic program at Pakhuis de Zwijger initiated by VII Insider (a program of The VII Foundation in partnership with PhotoWings) and Forhanna, scheduled to take place on 17 January 2024.
Bendiksen spent several years in the former USSR and published his first book, ‘Satellites – Photographs from the Fringes of the former Soviet Union’ in 2006. His fascination with enclaves and isolated communities led to the project ‘The Places We Live’, a three-year journey through slum communities worldwide.
In 2008, this became a book and exhibition with projections and voice recordings in a three-dimensional installation. His interest in faith and religion resulted in ‘The Last Testament’, about people claiming to be the Second Coming of Christ. In 2021, he published ‘The Book of Veles’ about a town that is known as the epicentre of fake-news. He is a member of Magnum and currently resides near Oslo.
