Since 2005, the Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie takes place every two years in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg. The project The Merge is included.
For each edition, an internationally renowned guest curator is invited to develop six thematic exhibitions on a total of around 4,500 square meters in the most important exhibition houses throughout the three cities. Iris Sikking has been asked for this edition to curate the exhibition. This includes the project The Merge van the Danish photographers Sara Brincher Galbiati (1981), Peter Helles Eriksen (1984) and Tobias Selnaes Markussen (1982).
The photographers collective based in Copenhagen, Denmark, studied together at the Danish School of Art Photography and the Danish School of Media and Journalism. In 2015, they started working as a collective. They had their first joint international exhibition at Rencontres d’Arles 2016, where they released the book Phenomena (published by André Frère Éditions). They are represented by East Wing Gallery (Dubai).
In 2018, Forhanna co-financed the project Scenes From a Simulated Reality which was a new chapter to their ongoing project The Merge, an exploration of the question whether we might be living in a computer simulation. The chapter was exclusively made for BredaPhoto Festival 2018.
We happily invite you to the international Artists Weekend from may 13th to may 15th 2022.
During an extensive program you can visit all exhibitions, get to know many international artists and their works and dive deep into the topics of the Biennale with the curator Iris Sikking.
